The age old tradition in buying an engagement ring is that it should cost the equivalent to one months salary of the man. Or is it age old at all? Well, that thought aside it is a silly tradition that has men terrified.

Most women dont care about the size of the rock, once they realize they are in love. They might joke about it, and ogle over the largest diamonds in magazines, but most of it really doesnt matter to them. When it comes down to the wire most women who are in love, just want to know that their love is returned, it doesnt take a huge amount of money to love somebody. Once a woman realizes that she is ready to get married, waiting for him to pop the question is like waiting to breathe again.
Men these days, especially with the economy, and the price of gold rising are facing a frightening thing. The girls they are in love with might not want to marry them because they cant afford to set aside an entire months pay. This might seem silly to women everywhere, but men place as much value on the price of the ring as women are rumored to. To them, it really does become a symbol of their ability to provide for a woman they want to spoil, rather than a symbol of eternal love. Some men are even postponing asking women to marry them indefinitely, because they dont have the courage to present their woman with an inferior ring.
Both sexes need to decide what is more important to them; spending the rest of your life with someone you love, or spending the rest of your life waiting for the money to get better? Money comes and goes. Whatever ring you are given when that question is asked will become more treasured than any expensive jewelry ever owned. To delay a life together in wedded bliss because the ring you can afford isnt the ring you think you deserve is silly. Just having each others love should be enough.
